Built for prince Eugen of Savoy (1663-1736), the iconic Belvedere palace is one of the most famous symbols of Vienna. The palace complex consists of the upper and lower palace, the gardens and stable.
The Upper Belvedere hosts the world’s largest collection of works of Gustav Klimt, Schiele, Kokocshka, as well as works of French Impressionists and Vienna Bidermeier era.
The smaller lower Belvedere (Unteres Belvedere) houses the appartments of the aristocrat that had the palace complex built.
The palace stables that once housed the prince’s finest horses, today host the collection of medieval art.
