Stadtpark (City Park)

Monument to Johan Strauss Junior at Stadtpark Vienna

The Stadtpark is a large park decorated with statues of famous Viennese artists, writers, musicians and composers. It is located in central Vienna, by the Ring boulevard. Cut in two by the Vienna river, and with a pond in the middle, the park is a great place for a break from sightseeing, because it’s proximity to many of the top attractions.

The most popular statue in the park is a gilded bronze statue of Johann Strauss II (composer of the Blue Danube waltz), a perfect background for a selfie.

The park was designed as an English garden with pavilions by the river and the elegant Kursalon building where Waltz concerts often take place.

Stadtpark was the first public park to be opened in Vienna (in 1862), built on the glacis of the demolished city walls.
