Kärntner street

Karntner street with Christmas decoration

This short street is one of the most popular shopping streets in Vienna, and a must visit as it runs between two of the top landmarks of the city – St. Stephens cathedral and Opera.

The street is lined with beautiful buildings, fancy cafes and shops.

The first record of Kärntner Straße is from 1257, as Strata Carintianorum, which refers to its importance as a trade route to the southern Austrian province of Carinthia.
