Plaza de Cibeles

Palacio de Cibeles - Madrid City Hall

Plaza de Cibeles is a central square with several iconic landmarks of Madrid and an important transportation intersection. The most prominent building is the white neoclassical Cibeles palace. Formerly the main post office building, it recently became the new city hall.

In the middle of the square is another well known attraction of Madrid – the Cibeles (Cybele) fountain.

Plaza de Cibeles is an intersection connecting the Calle de Alcalá (and later Gran Vía and the city core to the west, Retiro park and Puerta de Alcalá to the east), Paseo Recoletos (and later the Paseo de la Castellana) and Paseo del Prado.
