Plaça d’Espanya

Placa d'Espanya

Plaça d’Espanya (aka Plaça Espanya, or Plaza de España) is one of the most important squares of Barcelona, located at the foot of Montjuïc, just below the spectacular Palau Nacional (MNAC) and the Magic Fountain. This magnificent square was built for the Barcelona Expo in 1929, flanked by two Venetian towers towards and with a beautiful fountain in the middle.

On the other side of Plaça d’Espanya is the former bull fighting arena, nowadays transformed into the Arenas Shopping Centre. Just behind it is the Park of Joan Miró. On the opposite side of the Carrer Tarragona street is the iconic Hotel Catalonia Barcelona Plaza, with stunning views from its rooftop pool.

The square is an important traffic intersection with roads leading to all sides of the city. Below it is an important metro and regional railway hub.
