Parc de Joan Miró

Parc de Joan Miro

Named after one of Barcelona’s most famous artists, Joan Miró park is a large park in the Eixample district, just by the Plaça Espanya. The park consists of various areas built around a plaza designed to host all kinds of events and activities.

At one side of the park sits the famous 22 meter tall and colourful statue “Woman and the bird” by Joan Miró. On the other side there is a public library, also named after the artist. Also bordering the park is the shopping center Arenes de Barcelona.

Fun fact: The park is also known as Parc l’Escorxador (so named because it stands on the site of the old municipal slaughterhouse – escorxador in Catalan). The slaughterhause was demolished in 1979 to create a space for the park.
