San Miguel Market

Mercado de San Miguel, Madrid

San Miguel market is the most popular market in downtown Madrid. It is more of a gourmet market than a traditional grocery market, with over 30 different vendors selling a wide variety of freshly prepared tapas, hams, olives, baked goods and other foods. Beer, local wine and cava (Spanish champagne) are also available here.

It is a major tourist attraction thanks to its location just 100 meters from the Plaza Mayor, and the availability of food throughout the day (many Madrid restaurants have strict lunch and dinner hours).

The elegant wrought-iron structure was originally built in 1916, though it was recently reconstructed.
