Montjuïc hill is home to many of Barcelona’s top attractions. Crowned by the magnificent Palau Nacional, Montjuïc also hosts the Magical Fountains, Olympic stadium, Spanish Village and many others.Distance: 0.43 km
Today Montjuïc castle is a cultural and vantage point with historic and art exhibitions, but it wasn’t always as bright. Throughout its turbulent history, it was a symbol of oppression for the citizens of Barcelona. Canons from the castle bombarded the city several times, and it was used as prison and for torture.
A fortress was first built on this spot in 1640. During mid 18th century, it was reconstructed and converted into a castle.
