Originating from Italy where it was prepared as a meal for the poor, it has spread to every corner of the planet and to countless variations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you like the crust thin and crunchy or thick and fluffy, whole wheat flour will make it at least a bit healthier. This is a recipe for a thin crust, for 2 x 40cm diameter baking trays. For a thicker crust you could add a teaspoon of baking soda or dry yeast and a bit more flour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tip\">You can prepare the dough in advance and leave it in the fridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group recipe-box has-base-background-color has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\">\n<div id=\"ingredients\" class=\"wp-block-group ingredients has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>550g all purpose flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>250g whole wheat flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>100ml olive oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>400ml water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon sugar (or honey)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon active dry yeast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"prep\" class=\"wp-block-group method is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prep<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Activate the yeast: In a 2\/3 filled cup of warm water add the sugar and yeast and mix together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix in all the ingredients and knead the dough.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put in an oiled bowl, cover loosely with a towel and let rest in a warm place until doubled in size.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Celsius.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shape the dough in a ball shape and divide into two equal parts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thin out each dough ball with your hands or with a rolling pin until about 1cm (1\/2 inch) thick.
