Tiergarten Sch\u00f6nbrunn (Sch\u00f6nbrunn zoo) is a zoo located on the grounds of the famous Sch\u00f6nbrunn Palace<\/a>. Founded as an imperial menagerie in 1752, it is the oldest zoo in the world.<\/p>\n

A small zoo had already existed on the premises since 1540, but the complex was opened to the public only in 1779.<\/p>\n

The Sch\u00f6nbrunn zoo is one of the few zoos worldwide to house giant pandas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Other zoo attractions include a rainforest house<\/strong>, in which the spectator is led through a simulation of the Amazon rainforest, an aquarium<\/strong>, which enables spectators to walk through underneath a simulation of the Amazon in flood, and, more recently, an exhibit of animals in unnatural habitats. The new polarium<\/strong> for animals of the Arctic region was opened in early 2004.<\/p>\n

Opening times<\/h3>\n

Open daily from 9 a.m.<\/strong> \u2013 365 days a year \u2013 also on public holidays. Closing time varies according to the seasons and is between 4:30 p.m.<\/strong> and 6:30 p.m.<\/strong> The ticket office closes 30 minutes before closing time \u2013 this is also the latest entry time for the zoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/colgroup>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Aquarium-Terrarium House<\/strong> and the Tyrolean farm house<\/strong> close at the end of visiting hours, the Bird House<\/strong> closes an hour before, and all other animal houses<\/strong> close half an hour before.<\/p>\n
