It surrounds the city core, and is flanked by the most magnificent monuments including the <a href=\"https:\/\/resabi.com\/explorer\/vienna\/hofburg-imperial-palace\/\">Hofburg palace<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/resabi.com\/explorer\/vienna\/rathaus\/\">city hall<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/resabi.com\/explorer\/vienna\/staatsoper\/\">Opera building<\/a> and the Austrian parliament, parks and a quay.<\/p>\n<p>The Ringstra\u00dfe and many of it&#8217;s monuments were built 150 years ago, on the location of the old city walls. These were demolished as the city grew outwards rapidly.<\/p>\n<div  class=\"extended\">\n<p>The Ring boulevard is bicycle and pedestrian friendly, has a tram line circling its whole length. Trams go in both directions, while road traffic goes clockwise.
