MuseumsQuartier (Museum District)

Museumsquartier courtyard

The MuseumsQuartier (Museum District) is one of Vienna’s top attractions, a collection of the best museums of the imperial city located very close to one another.

Beside the contemporary and architecture museum located in the old imperial stables, two more important museums are located on the same square – Kunsthistorisches museum (Art history) and Naturhistorisches (Natural History) museum. The Leopold museum, also located in the courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier, showcases Austrian modern art featuring Egon Schiele (world’s largest collection), Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka and others.

In the middle of the square sits an impressive statue of the “mother of the nation” – emperess Maria Theresia.
