Vienna’s Art History (Kunsthistorisches) Museum is home to one of the world’s finest collection of fine art including masterpieces of Raphael, Tintoretto, Titian, Rubens, Rembrandt, Dürer and other masters. It is the largest art museum in Austria.
The museum was opened in 1891 by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary, together with its twin, the Natural History Museum. It is located between the imperial palace complex and the MuseumsQuartier, at Maria Theresia square on the Ringstraße. The two monumental museum buildings are among the most famous landmarks of Vienna.
One of the highlights of the Art History Museum is the Kunstkammer, the Chamber of Art. In this chamber you can see more than 2,100 valuable objects, collected by emperors and archdukes of the Habsburg dynasty over centuries.
