The Prado museum (Museo Nacional del Prado) is Madrid’s top attraction and one of the most important art museums in the world<\/strong>. It is home to art collected by generations of Spanish kings and emperors since the 15th century. The collection features masterpieces of Spanish, Dutch, French and Italian artists such as Velasquez, Goya, Titan, Rubens, Botticelli, Caravaggio and Rafael.<\/p>\n

Since the collection is huge, it would be a good idea to take one of the tours according to your interests. The official website offers a few suggested tours.<\/p>\n

The Prado is part of Madrid’s Museum Triangle along with the Reina Sofia modern arts museum and Thyssen-Bornemisza. You could save by buying joint tickets for all three museums.<\/div>\n

The colossal neo-classical building was built in 1785 to host the royal collection of art, though it wasn’t open until 1819. The museum was recently expanded to a newly constructed cube-shaped building beside the San Jeronimo el Real church, as well as the Cas\u00f3n del Buen Retiro, a remodeled annex next to Retiro park.<\/p>\n<\/div>Read more<\/a>\n
