Metro & local trains<\/h2>\n

Madrid’s urban railway network is the second largest (after London) in Europe. Most of the city is covered by 12 color coded Metro lines and 3 Light Metro (Metro Ligero – ML).<\/p>\n

The surrounding cities and towns are connected to Madrid by the RENFE (national railway operator) Cercan\u00edas (Local) trains.<\/p>\n

Main hub stations connecting Metro and Cercan\u00edas trains are Atocha<\/a>, Sol, Chamart\u00edn and Nuevos Ministerios.<\/p>\n

Bus<\/h2>\n

Madrid buses are operated by Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT)<\/strong> and have a fleet of around 2000 buses.<\/p>\n

Buses operate regularly from 6:30AM<\/strong> to 11:30PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are also night buses<\/strong>, commonly known as b\u00fahos<\/em> (owls), serving 26 routes and operating from 11:45PM<\/strong> to 5:30AM<\/strong>. They all start at Plaza de la Cibeles.<\/p>\n

Buses operated by Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid travel along most city routes regularly between about 6.30am and 11.30pm. Twenty-six night-bus\u00a0 routes operate from 11.45pm to 5.30am, with all routes originating in Plaza de la Cibeles.<\/p>\n

Metro & Bus Tickets<\/h2>\n

\u20ac1.50<\/strong> for a single trip, \u20ac12.20<\/strong> for a 10-trip Metrob\u00fas ticket<\/strong>. Single-trip tickets can be purchased on board.<\/p>\n

With nearly 16.000 Taxis on the streets of Madrid, finding a free one should be easy, though it is one of the most expensive means of transportation.<\/p>\n

Taxis in Madrid are white with a diagonal red band<\/strong> on their front door bearing the emblem of the city. They have a green light that is on when they are free.<\/p>\n

Starting (minimum fee)<\/strong>: 2.40 \u20ac<\/strong> Monday to Friday\u00a0from 6 am to 9 pm; 2.90 \u20ac<\/strong> Saturday and Sunday and at other times.<\/p>\n
