Palau G\u00fcell is a luxurious mansion and one of the first important projects Antoni Gaud\u00ed received at the start of his career. This beautiful masterpiece of architecture is now on the UNESCO list of cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

It was commissioned by Eusebi G\u00fcell , one of Barcelona’s richest industrialists (also a politician and patron of the arts), who wanted Gaud\u00ed to build him this peculiar urban palace as an extension of the family home on La Rambla.<\/p>\n

Palau G\u00fcell (1886-1890) is a magnificent example of domestic architecture in the context of Art Nouveau. It was the home of the G\u00fcell i L\u00f3pez family until they moved to Park G\u00fcell.<\/p>\n

Gaud\u00ed designed a functional palace adapted to the family’s needs in both their private life and the intense cultural and social life they led.<\/p>\n

The building is noteworthy for its innovative conception of space <\/strong>and light<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It was declared a historical-artistic monument by the Spanish Government (in 1969), Cultural Asset of National Interest by the Catalan Government and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (in 1984). As an early work, the building contains the essence of Gaud\u00ed’s later works and is fundamental to understanding his architecture.<\/div>Read more<\/a>\n
