The Spanish Village or Poble Espanyol is an artistic recreation of typical Spanish villages, featuring traditional house styles from all over the country.<\/p>\n
The open-air museum features exhibits on contemporary art, with streets, houses, parks, theatre, school, restaurants and artisan workshops.<\/p>\n
It was built in 1929 for the Barcelona expo, and intended to be demolished soon after the expo. However, it quickly became one of the city’s top attractions<\/a>, as it remains today.<\/p>\n The village hosts many different events including gastronomic festivals, concerts in summer, Flamenco<\/a> shows, private events such as weddings, and children’s activities.<\/p>\n Poble Espanyol is located at Montjuic hill<\/a> near the Olympic Ring complex.<\/p>\n The museum Fran Daurel is situated within the Poble Espanyol. It is a private collection open to the public featuring over 295 works of contemporary Spanish artists including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dal\u00ed, Joan Mir\u00f3, Antoni T\u00e0pies, Barcel\u00f3, Josep Guinovart and Amat. The museum holds paintings, sculptures, tapestries, drawings and ceramics, and a sculpture garden, with 41 large sculptures. The works by Picasso include ceramics from the 1950s and 1960s, where he used both traditional techniques and his own methods.<\/p>\n The Poble Espanyol has a theater that regularly organizes entertainment for children: theater, dance, music, clowns or puppets. The Barcelona School of Theatre also performs at this theater.<\/p>\n In addition to shows that take place every week in the theatre, Poble Espanyol has other activities for children: workshops (every Sunday morning), TOT Puppet Festival (March), living nativity scenes at Christmas, and family shows throughout the year (such as Carnivals, Santa Eul\u00e0lia, Fiesta Mayor, and Festival La Merc\u00e8).<\/p>\n The authors visited over 600,000 sites in Spain for inspiration to bring together the main characteristics of the regions of Spain.<\/div>Read more<\/a>\nMuseum Fran Daurel<\/span><\/h2>\n
