The temple of the Holy Family, better known as the Sagrada Familia is the most famous landmark of Barcelona. Even though it is unfinished, this colossal basilica designed by Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/a> is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n

The full name of the church is Bas\u00edlica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Fam\u00edlia,<\/b> or in English: Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family).<\/p>\n

Although many call it the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, it is NOT a cathedral, as it is not the seat of a bishop.<\/p>\n

Construction of Sagrada Fam\u00edlia started in 1882 and Gaud\u00ed became involved in 1883, taking over the project and transforming it with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvy Art Nouveau forms. Gaud\u00ed devoted his last years to the project, and at the time of his death at age 73 in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was complete.<\/p>\n
