El Raval is a neighborhood in the old town of Barcelona, southwest of La Rambla street, opposite to the Gothic Quarter. Less famous than its gothic counterpart, at the Raval you can find streets and plazas less crowded with tourists, and cheaper restaurants and eateries.
El Raval was formed in the middle ages outside the city walls, and today you can find remains from this period throughout the neighborhood.
Some of the highlights of El Raval include the Maritime Museum, Library of Catalunya, Botero’s Cat statue, and Sant Pau del Camp church and monastery.
