With something to offer for every visitor, the Natural History or Naturhistorisches Museum of Vienna is an attraction you really shouldn’t miss. The museum hosts more than 30 million objects in collections as old as 250 years when they were part of the imperial library.
There are also state of the art multimedia installations and displays guiding you through the collections.
At the Naturhistorisches Museum you can see all kinds of fascinating minerals, precious stones and meteorites (largest and oldest collection in the world!), stuffed animal species from all over the world, some of them extinct or endangered, dinosaur fossils and skeletons and many more.
Perhaps the most important treasure displayed in the museum is the Venus of Willendorf, a prehistoric figurine of a woman estimated to have been made between about 28,000 and 25,000 BC.
The museum building is a mirror of the Kunsthistorische (Art History) Museum, which is located across the Maria-Theresien-Platz, and they’re both among the top landmarks of the imperial city.
