National Museum of Catalan Art (MNAC)

MNAC cupola paintings

The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) is located in an impressive building sitting atop Montjuic hill, built for the 1929 Barcelona expo. It houses an equally impressive collection of visual art spanning from the 10th century to present day, considered one of the most important medieval art collections in the world.

The pavilion is surrounded by the unique scenery of the Montjuic hill combining lush green mediterranean vegetation and stunning modernista architecture. The Magic Fountain connects the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya to the Plaza d’Espanya below, flanked by the Barcelona Fair pavilions.

There is also a restaurant in the museum, in case you get hungry after so much time admiring the masterpieces.
