The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria or just Boqueria is the largest and most popular market in downtown Barcelona. It is located on the central Las Ramblas street in the old town district. At the Boqueria market you can get all sorts of fruits and vegetables, fresh meat & fish from all over the world.

With its smells, colors and sounds, the Boqueria market is a feast for all the senses.

La Boqueria is one of the oldest markets in Barcelona. A market was first established at this place in the 12th century. In the 14th century a pig market existed here. It was first mentioned under the current name (supposedly referring to goats) in the 18th century. Foundations of the present day market were laid 1840. The iron roof structure that stands here today was built in 1914.

Tips

The best time to visit the market is in the mornings when its most alive.
Try the freshly squeezed fruit juice at the fruit stands or the famous Jamón Iberico (cured ham) at a charcuteria stand.
